CONGRATULATIONS! The Hampshire Township Park District received a $600,000 OSLAD Grant for the park redevelopment!!! Construction is starting in December 2023 and will be completed by May 2025. Read below for more information on the improvements to come!

The Seyller Park Redevelopment project is to bring new life to the oldest park in Hampshire Township. The original 5 acres was dedicated as a park in 1892. In 1948 the Hampshire Township Park District was formed by referendum and this park was deeded over to the Park District. Improvements were originally constructed in the 1950’s, with the drainage of a pond and construction of bathrooms and a baseball diamond. Additional amenities were added in the 1970’s, including tennis courts. The maintenance building was constructed in 1984 and then later renovated to the Administration offices and a community rooms. In 1999 the playground was added through a $50,000 OSLAD Grant. A new maintenance building was constructed in 2001. In 2007, on the north end of the park, the preschool was built, and later a day care was added on to this building. The site is also home to the Veteran’s Memorial, the Hampshire Fire Protection District Memorial, a large community shelter and a shared-use path that transverses the site. In 2023 the Administration Offices moved to downtown Hampshire and the building became a Preschool and Community Room.

The Seyller Park Redevelopment is about breathing new life into this park. It will include replacing the 1950’s ballfield and 1999 playground that are both past their useful life. There are several objectives to redeveloping this park. First, to provide ADA accessibility for all ages, which includes adding ADA connections to the shared-use path, ADA playground, playground access, and ballfield. Second, to improve the safety of the park’s accessibility through widening the entrance drive to two lanes, and providing additional parking as requested in the public meeting. Third, is to create and offer new and exciting amenities to the entire community. The first amphitheater would provide a dedicated venue for concerts in the park, a program that has been going for several years called Music Under the Oaks. The 19 acres with mature trees and rolling hills will provide a unique disc golf course. Resurfacing the basketball and tennis courts will improve the surface to turn one tennis court into a skate park.
